Inglorious Basterds
I'm usually the first to post reviews here, so I'll keep mine short since most people will read and post Jer's...
There really is too much to say about this film. It's remarkable on so many levels that me blabbing about it doesn't do the movie any type of justice...
This is QTs finest film hands down...it's his best writing, shooting, producing, casting, etc....for me it has many "best since..." moments. Like best bar gun battle since Unforgiven, best Nazi villain since Shindlers List, etc...
It leaves you wanting more and more and he's created characters so riveting, smart and interesting that you leave this movie wanting to know more about them, infact you want to know everything about them.
There are loads of great characters but it centres on three...the Hero (Brad Pitt), the Nazi (Christoph Waltz) and the Girl (Melanie Laurent). All three are absolutely brilliantly acted and written. Brad Pitt has become the Errol Flynn of our time and carries with him a John Wayne-esc type performance that leaves you wanting more and anticipating every single sound that comes out of his mouth. Christoph Waltz is the best Nazi you love to hate since Ralph Fiennes in Schindlers List. He is both terrifying and intriguing at the same time. You'll love his cander and wit and his scenes lock you in and stay with you like no other character. Melanie Laurent is gorgeous and graceful. She plays a wonderfully written character with a nuance and charm that captivates you and you fall in love with her over and over again...
The rest of the cast is great and serves the movie very well. The care and thought put into casting each part was evident. Denis Menochet as Perrier LaPadite in the opening scene left me stunned.
There are so many great scenes, in fact one after another after another...it's exhausting thinking about this movie as a whole because the story is divided up so well yet remains linear which has kept me from liking QT movies in the past. His convoluded style kept me uninterested in his past efforts...
I'm stopping now because this could go on forever. I can't wait to see this movie again and I'm sure I'll like it more the second time once I've absorbed so much more of it. Easily the best movie of the year...
Undoubtably Stoked!!!!
